Welcome to the Choctaw Genealogy and History Page!
The purpose of this page is to bridge the distance between Mississippi and Oklahoma and bring families together in genealogy.
The Mississippi Choctaw occupied what is now the State of Mississippi at the arrival of the first European explorers.
The tribe was divided in 1832 and most of the individuals removed to Oklahoma Indian Territory. Several thousand chose to stay in Mississippi. Their descendants make up the tribe of today.
Their headquarters are located in Philadelphia, Mississippi.
I'm descended from Jean-Claude FAVRE, an Indian interpreter. He married a Choctaw woman. My ancestor is their daughter, Marguerite FAVRE b. c1760.
Jean-Claude's son, Simon FAVRE, from his 2nd marriage to Marguerite WILTZ, was also an Indian interpreter.
Some of the families descended from Jean-Claude were denied lands to which they were entitled. I will be adding
materials about this to this page from the American State Papers and other sources.
